Croma: group design project

This project was my team's contribution to the 2nd year chair project in our Industrial Design program. For our year, the project theme was “the future of work” and so we were tasked with designing and building a chair that fit within the workplace. We decided to design a chair for a breakout room, a place for people to relax and work at their own pace. In this project, you will see the design process from ideation to the final prototype model.

We had to build an extensive sketch model to prove that our paracord chair idea would actually work. After being pleasantly surprised with how strong and comfortable the paracord construction was, we further developed the overall design. This included rounding off the rear bottom of the chair and adding more dowels for both support and visual symmetry.

We built two final prototype chair models, one made from maple veneer plywood and blue paracord, and a chaise lounge version made from walnut veneer plywood and white cord. Both have cnc cut profiles, hand woven cord, and friction fit dowels, meaning no glue in sight.
